VANDGARD SPECIFIED BY HER MAJESTY’S PRISON SERVICE

The Prison Service has specified Vandgard’s Rotating Anti Climb Guard in a powder coated Green finish for use at HMP Ford Prison on a new 500 metre steel mesh perimeter fence.   Date: Friday 10 September, 2010
The approach road to Ford Prison is lined with miles of perimeter fencing, all accessible to the public and difficult to police, so the installation of an appropriate fencing system has been a priority. The Prison Service has specified Vandgard’s Rotating Anti Climb Guard in a powder coated Green finish for use at HMP Ford Prison on a new 500 metre steel mesh perimeter fence. Vandgard may be used in public places because, unlike razor wire it is not designed with intent to cause serious harm, and is yet more effective than traditional anti-climb systems. Vandgard provides a longer delay time but with safety and a less oppressive appearance. Construction of the first part of the fence took place in April this year, and was completed by FCY Doncaster which has been a market leading fencing contractor for over 30 years and has expanded and evolved to become the preferred suppliers for major utilities such as the National Grid, YE, Yorkshire Water and British Gas utilities There was fierce competition for the contract, which was supplied through one of Vandgard’s distributors, the McArthur Group who has an enormous selection of products available and an annual turnover in excess of £90 million operating out of 13 locations nationally. FCY worked closely with the Head of Works at HMP Ford to ensure the installation was completed on time and according to the specification by the Prison Technical Support Team at Sheppey. Vandgard was chosen because its design is unique; consisting of a series of curved vanes that revolve freely around a central shaft to create an unstable barrier which moves if anyone attempts to climb over it.
